Pomanders are a great way to add unique touches to wedding decor. Whether a bride decides to hang pomanders down the aisle on hooks, have her flower girl or bridesmaids carry one, they are adorable and easy to make for those who enjoy creative DIY projects.
Step 1: Gather Supplies
Flowers of choice; (Orange carnations are being used here), floral foam, pipe cleaner, clippers, ribbon, and floral tape.
Start by feeding the pipe cleaner through the floral foam, one end will have a loop, and the other will be knotted to stay in the foam.
Then, fill up a bucket, sink, container of water, whatever is deep enough, and set the foam in the water, let it sit on the surface and it will start to soak in the water, take out once it is completely saturated.
After the foam is ready, use floral tape around each way of the ball, this serves as a guide, but I also found out it helps keep the pipe cleaner in place.
Feed it through the loop, this is easier done before the flowers are put in.
Once the floral foam is prepared, cut the flowers being used short, so they sit on the surface, in this, I used 50 carnations. Follow the tape and fill up one half at a time.
Once one half is filled up, a bowl or container will be helpful to set the pomander onto while working on the other half. That way, your flowers aren’t being crushed!
And easy as that, you have a pomander! It is also helpful to use floral adhesive, just spray some of the adhesive to where the stems are in contact with the foam, and they will be more secure.
